Bayliss Seminar Series: Dr. Chris Carrie : Plant mitochondria contain an essential twin arginine translocation pathway Other events...
Twin-arginine translocation pathways have been identified in all domains of life. However in the eukaryotic domain they were thought to be only found in chloroplasts even though almost all plant mitochondrial genomes encode for a TatC protein. Our recent work has demonstrated that in Arabidopsis thaliana this mitochondrial encoded TatC is a functional gene which is translated into a protein. We have also identified the long sought after second mitochondrial subunit of the mitochondrial Tat pathway. The potential substrates and role of the newly mitochondrial Tat pathway will be discussed.
